FRP: Revolutionizing Industries from Infrastructure to Consumer Goods

Fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) is a composite material that has developed rapidly in recent decades. Approximately 70% of global fiberglass production is used to manufacture FRP. This material boasts high rigidity while being significantly lighter than steel. In jet aircraft, it is utilized for fuel tanks and pipelines to reduce overall weight. Even the miniature oxygen cylinders carried by astronauts who landed on the moon were made of FRP.
FRP offers easy processing, requires no painting, and is rustproof and corrosion-resistant.
After over four decades of development, China's FRP industry has achieved successful applications across various fields of the national economy and played a crucial role in economic construction. The main application areas of FRP are summarized below:
I. Construction Industry:
Cooling towers; FRP doors and windows (new types); building structures; building envelopes; interior equipment and decorative components; FRP flat panels; corrugated sheets; decorative panels; FRP covers; sanitary fixtures and integrated bathrooms; saunas; wave pools; construction formwork; silo structures; concrete forms; reinforcement materials; and solar energy utilization devices.
II. Chemical & Petrochemical Industry:
Corrosion-resistant pipelines; storage tanks and vessels; corrosion-resistant pumps and accessories; corrosion-resistant valves; gratings; ventilation facilities; sewage and wastewater treatment equipment and accessories.
III. Automotive & Railway Transportation:

Car bodies and components; all-plastic mini vehicles; body shells, doors, interior panels, pillars, floors, sills, bumpers, and dashboard panels for large buses; light trucks and vans; firefighting tankers, refrigerated trucks; tractor cabs and engine hoods. -
Railway:
Train window frames; interior ceiling curved panels; roof-mounted water tanks; toilet flooring; luggage car doors; roof ventilators; refrigerated car doors; water storage tanks; and certain railway communication facilities.
With advancements in science and technology and improvements in living standards, numerous civilian FRP products have been widely developed. Examples include urban sculptures, artistic installations, cafeteria furniture, motorcycle components, FRP flowerpots, safety helmets, premium recreational equipment, and household appliance housings—all successfully and extensively applied.
